Loving the ease.

I found my original 2600 but complications abound trying to get it to work with today’s components. This makes things so much easier. Capturing the retro fun of childhood.

Old fun up to date

It's nice to be able to play Atari on a flat screen and not use the RF adapter.

Atari 2600+

I really enjoy this console. Everything works great! Counting original Atari games. It’s a blast to play. And I Iike the fact, you can play both 2600 and 7800 Atari games on it. It’s like having 2 systems in 1. And those are 2 of there best systems. A real blast to play! Especially if you into classic gaming.

Nostalgia Compatible with Modern Tech

I grew up playing my dad's Atari 2600 in the 80s, so to be able to relive that nostalgia that works on modern TVs was something I couldn't pass up. It's one thing to play games on a computer emulator, but there's nothing like the tactile feel of slotting a game cartridge into the console and playing it on the TV!

The packaging was nice and well presented and came with a wired controller and the 10 in 1 game cartridge. The console itself is smaller and much lighter than the original, but not super tiny. Even the metal switches feel the same as the original 2600. Atari did a really great job replicating a slightly smaller, modern version of the original console, the Atari logo even lights up!

I'm also excited that it plays original cartridges for both the 2600 and 7800, I didn't have a 7800 growing up so I'm eager to start acquiring original 7800 game cartridges that I never got to play. I've been building up my 2600 game cartridge collection of all the games I had when I was a kid and getting the games I always wanted to get but never did. It's been a lot of fun playing these original games with my kid and seeing her get hooked on some of them!

I did also get the wireless CX78+ 7800 controller so I could play 7800 games, but it also works just fine with 2600 games, and a bit easier on your thumbs than the CX40+ joystick. A wireless sega controller will need the Mega7800 Adapter by RetroHQ to work with the 2600+, but it works and it's great!

I also updated the firmware for the console, it was a little more involved than I thought it should be, but the instructions on the Atari website were straightforward and it was relatively easy to do, but you will need a computer to do it.

I do have some issues with the dip switches not working that are on the 10 in 1 game cartridge, dip switch 1 and 2 don't seem to work so I can't play 7 out of the 10 games on cartridge. I'm currently working with Atari support to resolve the issue. Thankfully, I've not had any issues with the original game cartridges I have. Atari has a compatibility list of all the games that work, unfortunately Pitfall 2 doesn't work - but maybe one day.

I can't wait to get into some of the homebew carts you can get on AtariAge and some of the new official games coming out on the Atari website. This is a great console to dive back into nostalgia and appreciate the beginning of gaming history!
