Introduction
Hugohunt is a puzzle game for the Atari 2600 featuring fourteen unique levels. Your goal in each level is to move the smiling "Hugo" at the lower-right corner of the labyrinth to the exit elsewhere in the maze, represented as a circle. But it won't be easy! You have a finite amount of energy, and each move uses a small bit of that. If you run out of energy, you die! There are various obstacles and useful items throughout the maze, and you must choose your path carefully to succeed! How far can you get?
Hugohunt game was written by Angelsoft and released in December 2019. It is a port of the original Hugohunt game for the Atari 800XL written in 1985 by Stefan Dorndorf in Atari-BASIC with nine levels. Due to hardware limitations of the Atari 2600, all levels were redesigned.
How to Play
In each of the levels it's your goal to move the smiling “Hugo" at the lower right corner of the labyrinth with your joystick to the exit, which is a circle (in level 1 at the upper left corner). But of course there are some things to consider:
First, you have an energy amount, which is shown as the large bar at the bottom of the screen below the score. Every move of Hugo costs a small amount of energy and makes the bar smaller, turning the bar first yellow, then red. If the bar vanishes, you have no energy left and thus lose one of your three lives shown at the very bottom of the screen.
Every time you lose a life, you have to replay the current level. When you lose your last life, the game ends (and your score is displayed on the title screen).
There are various obstacles and useful items you'll encounter along the way. This includes a ghost, who will try to catch you and has the advantage of being able to move through walls! If the ghost touches Hugo, you will lose a life!
If you manage to reach the exit circle, you advance to the next level. If you master all levels, you get all your lives back, and the game restarts at level 1, but this time the ghost shows up in every level. How far can you get?

Get a Hugohunt Box!
If you'd like a boxed copy of Hugohunt, please select "Box Upgrade: Yes" at the top of the page before adding Hugohunt to your cart. Our boxes are professionally printed and include a box insert to hold your Hugohunt cartridge in place. We want you to play our games, so we have not sealed or shrinkwrapped the boxes in any way, allowing you easy access to the game cartridge and manual.
These boxes are the same size as boxes Atari produced for their games "back in the day". They look great sitting on a shelf with your other boxed homebrew games, or alongside games from the classic Atari 2600 library. We only have a limited number of boxes for each game, and there is no guarantee they will become available again once our supplies are exhausted.
Additional Information
Hugohunt includes game cartridge and full-color 8-page manual. You can optionally purchase a professionally printed box (see above). Available in NTSC and PAL television formats--please select above. If you do not select an option, you will receive an NTSC cartridge by default.
