Jump VCS is an endless runner style game for your Atari 2600 console, featuring multiple stages of increasing difficulty and collectible bonuses. Guide your player across the rooftops and ledges of the city whilst jumping over the gaps between buildings and avoiding obstacles. Timing, skill and a steady nerve are what's required to succeed at Jump VCS.

When you start the game, your player will be dropped into the horizontally scrolling cityscape at stage 1 and will commence running. Whilst running, press the left joystick controller button to jump in order to cross the gaps between buildings or avoid obstacles.

Jump VCS

You start the game with six lives indicated at the bottom of the screen. Once you have lost all of your lives, the game ends. Occasionally you will spot flashing bonuses as you progress through the stage. It is possible to move to the next stage early by collecting six of these bonuses. The number of bonuses collected is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Additional Information

Jump VCS includes game cartridge and four-page, full-color manual. Jump VCS supports NTSC and PAL television formats.

If you'd like a boxed copy of JumpVCS, please select "Box Upgrade: Yes" at the top of the page before adding JumpVCS to your cart. Our boxes are professionally printed and include a box insert to hold your JumpVCS cartridge in place. We want you to play our games, so we have not sealed or shrinkwrapped the boxes in any way, allowing you easy access to the game cartridge and manual.

These boxes are the same size as boxes Atari produced for their games "back in the day". They look great sitting on a shelf with your other boxed homebrew games, or alongside games from the classic Atari 2600 library. We only have a limited number of boxes for each game, and there is no guarantee they will become available again once our supplies are exhausted. It's an urban jungle out there, and your one goal is to jump. You literally have one control at your disposal, hit the jump button to survive. Why are you running? Who are you running from? Nobody knows, but you cannot stop. Just jump across the gaps and over any obstacles.

I really love the minimalist approach to this game. From the graphics with their simple color scheme, to the neat parallax scrolling of the background, the game has nice polish. To progress to the next level, you need to collect six pellets. As far as I know, the stages appear to be randomly generated, as there doesn't seem to be any exact repetition with the patterns generated.

Upon collection of the sixth pellet, you progress to the next level with a new color scheme and occasional change in level design. If I can fault the game on one point, it is that the progress can be slow.

Every two stages the style of platforming elements change, from building tops in stages 1 and 2 to beams in stages 3 and 4, and back to building tops again. Starting with stage 5, additional complexity gets added to the platforming elements making the game trickier.

My one complaint is that the beginning stages are almost too easy and an option for starting on a more difficult stage ie "hard mode" would have been nice. Playing through the game tends to get hypnotic after a while, almost trance-like, and deaths eventually occur not because of the challenge but because I lose concentration.

There is no score to track progress through the game besides the stage designation and collecting pellets. An score or "distance traveled" display to track distance would have been a nice addition. Overall this game has a great addictive play mechanic even though progress can be long-winded at times.

I personally rate Jump VCS 3.5 joysticks, which rounds up to four. If you enjoy games with a one button mechanic, I would also highly recommend checking out the stellar Wall Jump Ninja also available in the AA store.

JUMP VCS for Atari 2600
