Lode Runner

Power hungry leaders of the repressive Bungeling Empire have stolen a fortune in gold from the people by means of excessive fast-food taxes.

Your mission, as a galactic commando, is to infiltrate the 150 different treasury rooms, evade the deadly Bungeling guards, and recover every chest of Bungeling booty!

Gameplay

This Atari 2600 version of Lode Runner is a tribute to the original release from 1983, which defined the puzzle platformer genre using smooth animation and clever enemy AI. All 150 classic levels are here, adapted to fit the Atari 2600's limited playfield resolution.

Avoid the guards, collect all of the gold, and then climb to the top of the screen to escape to the next room.

Good luck!

The best game ever on the best console ever. I've just thrown my PS5 through the window. It's just unbelievable how playable this game is. I just need the genesis gamepad so I can dig left and right. Thanks Dionoid ! Really one of my best video games buys.

A masterpiece of a game, it holds its own against all other Lode Runner 8-bit ports. And with dozens and dozens of levels, gameplay value is through the roof.

This is a great translation of the 8 bit Computer classic. Being an official licensed port, Lode Runner for the Atari 2600 is an excellent Apple II computer port that managed to get all 150 original levels with how limited power the Atari 2600 can accomplish.

The gameplay is what you expect from the original 8 bit computer port of the game. Enemy AI is fair, adjustable speed, fast and responsive controls Lode Runner is a puzzle platform that is still fun to play this day and age. Even better with this release since the original Lode Runner on the 8 Bit computers like Apple II and Commodore 64 you have so many lives to start in a level that once you ran out of lives it's back to the beginning, which is not good for today's gamers.

Instead you can play through the level as many times as you like. Not only that, but you have the timer bonus instead of limited lives thus allowing you to continue through the level and completing it without frustration once you notice the pattern each level you enter. How you save progress, you can enter the passkey that is shown on the level you have completed before the next stage. It is nice that you can use the AtariVox or Save Key to save high score and level progression you currently stopped on.

Lode Runner on the Atari 2600 is a great translation from the 8 Bit Computers that I highly recommend to add to your collection. It has all the levels, not have to worry about lives count and Enemy AI is balanced that is worth the investment for Atari 2600 collectors out there.

I grew up with Lode Runner on my original Tandy 1000 in 1985 and know this well. I feel this 2600 translation is even better than the official release I grew up with. Controls are sharp, speed is adjustable, and AtariVox support is a wonderful bonus! I couldn't be happier with this game or its execution. Great job!
