It's All About The Cheese!

You're a mouse, caught in a maze full of cheese, dog bones, and prizes. That might sound like a dream come true, and it probably would be under different circumstances. However, this maze is full of cats, and you're THEIR dream. They want to catch you in a mouse trap!

Fortunately, you can collect and can carry up to six bones. Pressing your "doggie" button will use a bone, temporarily transforming you into a dog. The cats will scatter, and you can earn bonus points for each one you catch. Additionally, each prize is worth 200 points more than the last. That's how you win big!

Beware the hawk, which flies overhead! Mouse or dog, the hawk is not your friend. Run to the central "IN" location, in order to confuse the hawk.

It's a dangerous life as a mouse, but you know at the end of the day, it's all worth it for the cheese!

Gameplay

Guide your mouse through the maze of cheese. Avoid becoming prey to the cats and the hawk. Collect and save magic dog bones throughout the maze, up to six dog bones at one time. The number collected is indicated by the red “X” at the bottom left of your screen. To use a dog bone, press the “Doggie Button.” This will temporarily transform you into a dog. At this time, you can turn and attack the cats. Beware though, the hawk can still overpower the dog. You can alter the maze by changing the the color doors.

Collect all of the cheese in the maze to progress to the next level. Be sure to grab the prizes, scattered throughout the maze! That is a key to a high score!

Controller Support

As the original Mouse Trap arcade game features a joystick, three buttons for controlling the doors, and a "Doggie" button, Mouse Trap supports a variety of controllers and controller configurations: 

• Standard Controller - This is a standard 7800 two-button controller.  Button 1 activates the "Doggie" button, and Button 2, combined with pressing the joystick in one of three directions, controls the three doors.
• Dual Sticks - Two joystick controllers, where the left controller moves the mouse, and the right controller can be used to toggle the doors and activate the "Doggie" button.
• Three-Button Genesis Controller - When used with a MEGA7800 adapter, the Start button activates the Doggie button, then the A, B, and C, buttons toggle the three different doors.
• Six-Button Genesis Controller - When used with a MEGA7800 adapter, the Start button Pauses the game, the X, Y, and Z buttons activate the doors, the A, B, and C buttons activate the Doggie mode, and pressing Y + Z when paused resets the game.
• Six-Button Super Nintendo Controller - When used with an SNES2Atari adapter, the Start button pauses the game, The B button activates Doggie mode, and the Y, X, and A buttons control the doors.

Bonus Game - Mouse Line!

Mouseline is an extra game that comes with Mouse Trap! Press button 1 to select this game, and press button 1 again to begin playing.

Move left and right with the joystick to avoid the cat while collecting cheese, dog bones, and prizes. Press button 1 to transform into the dog in order to catch the cat. Pressing the Reset button will return the player to the Mouse Trap title screen.
