Penult - Atari 2600

The kingdom of Faradur has been overrun by hordes of creatures from the Shadow Realm. You are a simple villager who, for reasons unknown, was chosen as the companion of a fey creature pledged to assist you. Can you find the cause of the calamities and save the kingdom?

Gameplay

Penult is a single-player game for the Atari 2600 created in the style of the Ultima RPG series. To play Penult, choose your character's name, gender, and attributes, including strength, dexterity, and intelligence, to determine their capabilities, and then you are ready to explore the world!

Use your joystick to move your character through the overland to explore, but first consider buying supplies from the nearby town before wandering too far. Use the joystick button to bring up a menu of actions at the bottom of the screen, such as interacting with townsfolk, or navigating combat in the wilderness.

Cloth Map of Faradur Included!

We've put together a beautiful cloth map of Faradur, and this map will be included free with your copy of Penult! Fans of the old Ultima games will fondly recall the cloth maps of Britannia (and other realms) included with those games, and the Faradur map is similar in size to those maps from an era gone by. The map depicted below could change very slightly, we are in the process of having it printed and will update this page with an actual photo of the map once we have them in our ppossession!

AtariVox Support

Penult takes full advantage of the AtariVox or SaveKey for saving your progress in the game. As Penult is a game you are unlikely to finish in one sitting, we highly recommend the use of an AtariVox or SaveKey in order to save your progress, allowing you to continue from where you left off the next time you fire up the game.

Included with Penult is the game cartridge, full-color, 36-page manual, a professionally printed box, 10" x 14" poster featuring William Thorup's newly-created artwork for Penult, and a beautiful cloth map of Faradur. Penult is available in NTSC and PAL60 television formats. Please specify above when ordering or you will receive an NTSC cartridge by default.
