Stay Frosty 2 Cartridge and Manual

2014 AtariAge Holiday Greetings Cart

Stay Frosty 2 marks the return of the AtariAge Holiday Greetings Cart! The last AtariAge Holiday Cart was Stella's Stocking, a whopping 64K cartridge containing five separate games (including Stay Frosty, the predecessor to Stay Frosty 2), and a beautiful menu with music you won't believe is coming from an Atari 2600. The initial run of the game was numbered, but the game is now sold in an "Unlimited" form, and the labels were changed to remove the "Holiday Greetings" text and the space for the number.

Gameplay

Extinguish the pesky fireballs, either by throwing snowballs or simply running over them! The larger the fireball, the more snow it takes to put it out. But remember, our hero is only made of snow! He'll melt a little bit whenever he touches something hot, with each snowball thrown or just as time passes. You have to replenish him with the ice blocks scattered around.

Ice blocks also melt as time passes, so you'll need to be quick. To make matters worse, everything melts faster as the day progresses. If your snowman melts past his neck or falls through the floor he loses a life. If he loses all of his lives the game ends. After your game ends, you can choose to continue playing from the last level reached up to two times. Your score and lives will be reset.

There are 32 different layouts in Stay Frosty 2 which repeat for 128 total levels. Each time you complete a set of 32 levels, the weather gets a little hotter and everything melts a little faster. After every 32nd level, you'll rescue one of Santa's helpers. After level 128, you'll rescue Santa himself and win the game!

Gamepad Options

Stay Frosty 2 supports the the use of a gamepad. If a compatible gamepad is connected, the primary button causes Frosty to jump. The secondary button allows you to throw a snowball (when you are able to). Joypads known to be compatible with Stay Frosty 2 include the Amiga CD32 joypad and the Sega MD/Genesis controller. Other gamepads may also work.

Stella's Stocking Own The Original Stay Frosty!

What a great, fun game, my first physical homebrew, packaging is first rate, the game play is wonderful, very polished looking but still retains the charm of the 2600. Highly recommend.

My favorite holiday game ever made, and I've played a few. It nails it in every category: Graphics, Sound, Gameplay, Festivity, Snowman. You know the song Once there was a Snowman? This game really makes you feel like your a Snowman! It does it better than any game I've yet played. I play this game all year round because its a fantastic game. Now I need Stay Frosty 3.

I never imagined a game like this was possible on the 2600. One button to jump is definitely enough in this innovative and expansive platforming adventure. The other reviews have covered a lot of the details already. Just know that it has to be seen and heard to be believed.

One of my favorite Atari 2600 games of all time! The graphics and music in this game would have blown me away back in the 80's. I feel like this is one of the must have games for the system.

Amazing puzzle-platformer that's enjoyable no matter the season!

The gameplay is a very unqiue; unlike most platformers where it's going from point-A to point-B, you have to dispose of your enemies before advancing to the next stage. To dispose of your fire enemies, you simply moe them down as Frosty the Snowman, just like the fist Saty Frosty, which can be purchased a Stella's Stocking, which I highly reccomend!

Unlike the prequel, you are given various items to aid you on your journey to stay as chill as possible; however, they are placed sparingly and you have to think of the right time to use them.

Words can't describe how good the game is; to accompany the already great gameplay, the presentation is among the best the Atari 2600 has to offer.

While technically a Holiday Season (of Winter) game, great design has no time limit and is to be enjoyed as one of the best Atari 2600 games in existence!

I have something like 50 homebrew Atari 2600 titles by now, and most of them are pretty decent.

Stay frosty is something else entirely: it is a masterpiece. There is nothing else like it on the console. It has tons of brilliantly designed platforming levels that force you to play the game in new and interesting ways. It has power ups, secrets, and some of the most charming graphics and music on the system.

Stay Frosty deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Solaris, Pitfall and River Raid.

It's timeless fun. This is one game that will not sit on the shelf and gather dust. Outstanding. Buy it.

I didn't think it was possible to improve, or expand, upon the first "Stay Frosty", but here is the rare sequel which almost renders the original obsolete.

More enemies, more obstacle types and items granting special powers (double-jump, throw snowballs, restore all ice cubes, see invisible floors) make this the type of game I sometimes play just to spend more time in its world--not unlike how some people regard Super Mario Bros. Elements such as hot floors, ice chests and gas cans (the last of which re-establishes all enemies) result in an action-based puzzler where I continue to find new solutions to certain floors even after playing the game for six months.

...and there's even more to crow about: such as support for Genesis controllers, hidden bonus levels, two continues per game and an easter egg to jump to the level of your choice.

"Stay Frosty 2" isn't just the best 2600 homebrew I have played to date--it is possibly my favorite game for the system, period.

One of the best games I have played in a while. I play a lot of arcade style platformers and this one has some very unique, but intuitive gameplay. After introducing this to some of my friends they couldn't believe it was an Atari 2600 game. I hope to see more games like this in the future!

Stay Frosty was definitely one of the shinning stars on the homebrew compilation Stellas Stocking. So I was excited to see a stand along sequel

Gameplay: It is a great platform. Killing fireballs is not an easy task and will require some strategy and ice cube management. This sequel also added some new features like powerups for double jumping and snowball throwing. It is great that this game includes continues because it can be super hard at times (flaming birds are most problematic for myself).

Graphics: everything looks great! This pushes the hardware of the 2600 and it's always amazing to see what can be done by modern homebrewers.

Sound: music is good and festive. However, I'm not always in a festive mood so I'm grateful there is a way to turn off the music during gameplay.

Final thoughts: Great game but maybe a little tough in terms of difficulty progression. That is probably the biggest downfall of the game. Other than that this is easily a top notch game and I'm happy it is a part of my
