Everybody's favorite fabled frosty firefighter is back!

But so are those pesky fireballs and they're hotter than ever! This year they've kidnapped Santa and some of his helpers, so it's up to you to put out the fireballs and rescue your friends from their fiery fate. Your first frosty adventure was just a warm-up - now there are all new levels to conquer and challenges to face! Fortunately, you've found some new magic in that old silk hat of yours.

Can you stay frostier, fight your way to the fireballs' frigid fortress and freeze those fiendish flames?

Stay Frosty 2 Cartridge and Manual

2014 AtariAge Holiday Greetings Cart

Stay Frosty 2 marks the return of the AtariAge Holiday Greetings Cart! The last AtariAge Holiday Cart was Stella's Stocking, a whopping 64K cartridge containing five separate games (including Stay Frosty, the predecessor to Stay Frosty 2), and a beautiful menu with music you won't believe is coming from an Atari 2600. The initial run of the game was numbered, but the game is now sold in an "Unlimited" form, and the labels were changed to remove the "Holiday Greetings" text and the space for the number.

Gameplay

Extinguish the pesky fireballs, either by throwing snowballs or simply running over them! The larger the fireball, the more snow it takes to put it out. But remember, our hero is only made of snow! He'll melt a little bit whenever he touches something hot, with each snowball thrown or just as time passes. You have to replenish him with the ice blocks scattered around.

Ice blocks also melt as time passes, so you'll need to be quick. To make matters worse, everything melts faster as the day progresses. If your snowman melts past his neck or falls through the floor he loses a life. If he loses all of his lives the game ends. After your game ends, you can choose to continue playing from the last level reached up to two times. Your score and lives will be reset.

There are 32 different layouts in Stay Frosty 2 which repeat for 128 total levels. Each time you complete a set of 32 levels, the weather gets a little hotter and everything melts a little faster. After every 32nd level, you'll rescue one of Santa's helpers. After level 128, you'll rescue Santa himself and win the game!

Gamepad Options

Stay Frosty 2 supports the the use of a gamepad. If a compatible gamepad is connected, the primary button causes Frosty to jump. The secondary button allows you to throw a snowball (when you are able to). Joypads known to be compatible with Stay Frosty 2 include the Amiga CD32 joypad and the Sega MD/Genesis controller. Other gamepads may also work.

Stella's Stocking Own The Original Stay Frosty!

As mentioned above, the 2007 AtariAge Holiday Greetings Cart, Stella's Stocking, contains five holiday-themed games, including Stay Frosty. If you haven't yet played Stay Frosty, you owe it to yourself to pick up Stella's Stocking and enjoy Stay Frosty as well as the other four games included. Stella's Stocking includes a beautiful label and manual designed by David Exton, who also created the label and manual for Stay Frosty 2, and all the prior AtariAge Holiday Greeting Carts.

What a great, fun game, my first physical homebrew, packaging is first rate, the game play is wonderful, very polished looking but still retains the charm of the 2600. Highly recommend.

My favorite holiday game ever made, and I've played a few. It nails it in every category: Graphics, Sound, Gameplay, Festivity, Snowman. You know the song Once there was a Snowman? This game really makes you feel like your a Snowman! It does it better than any game I've yet played. I play this game all year round because its a fantastic game. Now I need Stay Frosty 3.

I never imagined a game like this was possible on the 2600. One button to jump is definitely enough in this innovative and expansive platforming adventure. The other reviews have covered a lot of the details already. Just know that it has to be seen and heard to be believed.

One of my favorite Atari 2600 games of all time! The graphics and music in this game would have blown me away back in the 80's. I feel like this is one of the must have games for the system.
